Sessions for individuals and groups
Sessions are generally designed for the individual, however group work and can be facilitated. Group work can be a great way to develop confidence, and the skills associated with working as a 'functional' group.
Generally, a block of 6 - 8 sessions is recommended. Ideally sessions will be most effective if attended on a regular basis, weekly if possible or at least bi-weekly in-order to keep the new information and learning fresh and current.
Who can benefit from EFL/T sessions?
Anyone, who is able to reflect on their own physical and emotional experience. Equine facilitated Learning and Therapy can help with many areas of our lives and is considered to be especially helpful for those who want to develop personally and increase levels of confidence and self-awareness.
Participants very often have no experience of being around horses prior to coming to sessions. No previous experience is necessary at all. Most people take to working with the horses and very quickly become comfortable and familiar with the horse's individual characters.
EFL/T sessions
These sessions can be especially helpful for those who want to change elements of their behaviour, learn to regulate emotions, decrease anxieties, increase emotional awareness and support psychological wellness.
There is much research that demonstrates the effectiveness of EFT to help people work through various types of trauma and PTSD. EFL/T can also be very effective in helping with challenges associated with the more common neurodivergent conditions such as;-
- Dyslexia
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
During these sessions we might focus on developing compassionate leadership skills, problem solving, decision making and developing more effective ways of communicating.
This work is focused very much 'in the moment'; learning to problem solve, which increases overall confidence and develops a sense of self-efficacy. The work teaches participants how to regulate challenging emotions. Learning how to find a more relaxed internal state around the horses is an essential skill in all the ground work; clients have to learn how to establish a compassionate yet assertive mindset in order to carry out the activities successfully. The goal oriented part of the work creates a more positive mindset in clients and improves their overall sense of achievement, which naturally builds their confidence.
This intervention seeks to enhance the physical and emotional well-being of both the participant and the horses they work with, enabling the experience of partnership and positive well-being, and also provides a place to experience positive relationship building.
